BARBERSHOP

SHORT FILM

 GETTY  IN THIS SHOP

GETTY FILMS commissioned us to shoot scenes of a classic NYC barbershop. There’s none more real than the Head Hunter barbershop in Bedford-Stuyvesant, where a young Notorious B.I.G. got his hair cut. The owner, Mark Johnson, welcomed us and invited us to film the shop’s regulars.

Soon after, an amazingly talented filmmaker, J.M. HARPER, used our footage almost exclusively to create this “In This Shop” short for Getty’s global Mishmash competition— it won first prize.

Sadly, after 70 years, this renowned barbershop closed its doors, due to a rent increase caused by gentrification in the neighborhood. This film captured a special place, and we know it meant a lot to everyone involved. Thank you GETTY FILMS, MARK JOHNSON, and J.M. HARPER.
